I figured that I ought to copy some of the contents from my art thread on our forum and paste them here. Most of my work
is also on my deviantART page, but not all of it is there. Let's start the show, shall we?
Drawings
REX Barron as Mattrex. I have a feeling that many of you have already seen this one. I cannot believe how time-consuming this particular piece
was, but I like to think it was worth it. It took about five hours to draw it on paper, another five or so to smooth out all
the lines and correct "erasure mistakes" (as my geometry teacher last year calls them) after I scanned it in— I don't
like to ink my works since I'm incredibly sloppy with the ink, so I correct it to look inked on Photoshop— and two to
three more hours spent to put in the color. I wonder what else I could've done in 13 hours… sigh…
The result, however, is amazing in my not-so-humble opinion. (However, I later learned that I needed to have
put designs on his arms to match those on his legs, but I feel that this was a great job considering that it is actually
only the second time that I've drawn Mattrex.) In case it's hard to make out the title of the book in his hand, I'll
tell you that he's reading Great Expectations by Charles Dickens, one of my personal favorites.
REX Barron in Human Form. This, ladies and gentlemen, is a close-up of yours truly: the handsome, intelligent, powerful,
cultured and sophisticated Remington Everard Xerxes Barron. I highly doubt that you can draw a better picture of me.
Putting aside the split personality for a second, I honestly like the way it turned out. As you can tell by the personality-influenced
part of this post, he's very arrogant, and his futuristic dressy-casual wardrobe solidifies it. I loved the background (which
uses the same colors as the flames in the Mattrex pic) and the fact that the bright eyes are so penetrating. I typically
use one of three different eye styles for male characters; the first was used for drawing Saturn (in my former dA avatar)
and usually denotes a heroic protagonist or such, the second was used for drawing Uranus (see my dA page) and usually indicates
that a character is energetic, and the third is used here and on the picture of Neptune (also see my dA page) and usually
indicates either a serious and mature character or a dark one. REX fits both of these categories personality-wise in my opinion.
Tracii. Now, everyone on Critical Mass should have already seen this picture. She is a supporting character that will appear
in the epilogues. For the moment, I shall only give away that this Reploid's name is Tracii (and yes, her name is a reference
to Tracii Guns, a former Guns N' Roses member, but that's because I like the band and prefer the English names for the Mega
Man X5 Reploids). The background comes from the stage select screen in the same game. Also, please don't ask me why she
has both goggles and a visor. I liked the way it looked, but I haven't yet decided whether the two allow her to see different
frequencies of vision (e.g. infrared) or one allows that and the other helps her analyze and process data much more rapidly.
May I have this Dance? A gift drawing of Dark Necrobat for Regulus's 20th birthday. I tried to be a little more detailed than usual on the
background, but something about the balcony looks funny to me (besides the fact that it's ruined XD ). Other than that,
I hope the pose is okay; I don't think I foreshortened the left arm properly, though.
I felt that I should try my hand at spriting REX in 32-bit format. Tom Dubius and Aaron Boreal from Mega Man Star Force
served as great bases for the body, while Pharaoh Man from Mega Man 2: The Power Fighters and Mr. Match from Mega
Man Battle Network 2 were all the outside sources I needed in order to obtain the necessary extra colors. The odd
thing is that, every time I sprite a new outfit for him, REX just keeps looking Gothier and Gothier… that wasn't my
intention at all. ^^;
Well, since Regulus modified the sprite for Dark Necrobat, I figured that someone ought to make a new sprite
for Volt Kraken's new look, and the above sprite is my try at it. I think I did well with the colors becoming paler
and adding in the hair; my main problems were where the design actually changed or with the eyes. I wanted to show that
the pupils are white without erasing the irises, but the whole eye didn't actually fit all that well in my opinion.
The scientist who appears briefly in Act Three. Incidentally, her design was inspired by that of Mimette, one of
the Witches 5 in Sailor Moon S.
